National training workshop on the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) in Bangladesh - Swedish Contribution to EW4ALL

The training on the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) in Bangladesh marks a significant advancement in strengthening the country’s disaster preparedness and response capabilities. This initiative was made possible through the financial support of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), under the Early Warnings for All (EW4ALL) initiative.

Led by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in close collaboration with the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), the workshop brings together a range of national and international stakeholders. The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) are also providing training support, collaborating to enhance resilient through these CAP implementation efforts.

Innovative approaches are being employed to accelerate the adoption of the CAP standard by National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) and other alerting authorities. These include customizing strategies to fit local contexts, reinforcing existing infrastructure, building upon ongoing initiatives and strengthening collaborative networks for global CAP implementation. To support regional knowledge sharing and capacity building, the workshop also benefits from the expertise of a regional CAP trainer from India, specifically the India Meteorological Department. This is meant to bring valuable experience and cross-border insights to the training.
